What The Track is a free song guessing game you play in your browser. Pick an artist, then race to name ten of their songs from five-second clips. There is nothing to install and no account to create: share a four-character room code and your friends are in the same game within seconds, on whatever phone, tablet or laptop they have to hand.
It works for any artist on Apple Music with enough song previews, from the biggest names in pop to a band only you and your friends have heard of. Every clip is an Apple Music preview, and every song revealed after a round links straight to it on Apple Music, so a track you half-remembered is one tap away.
The host starts a room and everyone joins on their own phone with the room code or by scanning a QR code. You all play the same ten songs, and every round's time is added up: a wrong answer costs three seconds, and a round you never solve counts as thirteen. The lowest total time wins. The fastest times for each artist go on a global leaderboard that keeps the past seven days.
A head-to-head duel on two devices, wherever you both are. Whoever names the song first takes the round, and after ten rounds the player who took the most wins.
Two players, one screen, split down the middle. Lay the phone flat between you, take a side each and tap your answer on your own half. First correct answer wins the round, so it rewards quick fingers as much as a good ear.
Yes, every mode is free to play. The game is paid for by ads, which appear on the home page and on the results screen after a game, never while a round is being played.
No. It runs in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Open the page, pick an artist and play. Friends join with a room code or a QR code, with no sign-up either.
Party Mode takes up to ten players, each on their own device. 1 vs 1 online is two players on two devices, and Same phone is two players sharing one screen.
Any artist you can find in the search, as long as Apple Music has enough previews of their songs to fill a game. The popular quizzes on this page are a quick start, not the limit.
Songs are drawn from the artist's most popular tracks on Apple Music, within whatever pool you choose: top hits, the whole catalogue, the last ten years or one decade. Different releases of the same song, such as a remaster or a remix, count as one song, so the four options in a round are always four different titles.
By time. Each round records how long you took to find the right answer, plus three seconds for every wrong guess along the way. A round you never solve counts as thirteen seconds. Add up all ten rounds and the lowest total wins.
Yes. The host can switch the artist or the song pool from the lobby at any point before the game starts. Everyone's ready status resets, so nobody starts on a playlist they did not agree to.
Because that is the game. Five seconds is enough for a fan to recognise an intro, a vocal or a beat, and short enough that the fastest ear wins. After the game every song links to Apple Music, and the 1 vs 1 and Same phone results screens let you replay a longer preview of each one.
